How to Install GPTDisguise on Chrome and Firefox

The install takes under a minute and the free plan needs no account. This covers both browsers, pinning the toolbar icon, and the handful of things that trip people up afterwards.

Chrome

1. Open the GPTDisguise listing on the Chrome Web Store.
2. Click Add to Chrome, then Add extension at the prompt.
3. Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin GPTDisguise so the toggle stays one click away.
4. Open ChatGPT and click the GPTDisguise icon. The page re-renders inside the Google Docs interface.

The package is roughly 0.3 MB, so the download is effectively instant. Works on Chrome and on Chromium-based browsers including Edge, Brave and Arc, though those are not separately tested.

Firefox

1. Open the GPTDisguise add-on on Mozilla Add-ons.
2. Click Add to Firefox and confirm.
3. Pin it from the toolbar overflow menu.
4. Open ChatGPT and click the icon.

The Firefox build is in beta. The core Google Docs disguise works, but it trails the Chrome release on newer themes. If you want the most complete version today, use Chrome.

Do I need an account?

Not for the free plan. The Google Docs disguise with ChatGPT works the moment it is installed.

You need an account for Premium features — Claude, Gemini (alpha), the Word and Notion themes, keyboard shortcuts and session memory — because that is how the extension knows which plan you are on. Create one here, then confirm the email that arrives in your inbox before signing in.

Common problems

The icon isn't in my toolbar

Chrome hides new extensions behind the puzzle-piece menu by default. Click it, find GPTDisguise, and click the pin. This is far and away the most common "it didn't install" report, and nothing is actually wrong.

Nothing happens when I click the icon

The disguise applies to supported AI sites, not to every page. Make sure you are on ChatGPT (or Claude, on Premium) rather than a new tab. If you already had the tab open when you installed the extension, reload it — content scripts do not inject into pages that were loaded first.

The layout looks broken or half-applied

Usually a stale tab after the site changed its markup. Reload first. If it persists, check for a pending extension update: these sites redesign without warning, and a broken half-skin is more conspicuous than none, so fixes ship quickly.

Claude isn't disguising

Claude support is Premium. Confirm you are signed in to GPTDisguise and that your plan is active on the dashboard. See the Claude setup guide for the full walkthrough.

I confirmed my email but still can't sign in

Confirmation links expire. If yours has, sign up again with the same address to trigger a new one, and check your spam folder — that is where most missing confirmation mail ends up.

Uninstalling

Right-click the icon and choose Remove from Chrome (or Remove Extension in Firefox). Because the extension keeps nothing on a server — there is no GPTDisguise backend holding conversation data — removing it from the browser is the whole cleanup.
